Exhibition: Compulsion
Compulsion
[kuh m-puhl-shuh n]
Noun : the state or condition of being compelled.
Psychology : a strong, usually irresistible impulse to perform an act, especially one that is irrational or contrary to one’s will.
Compulsion is an exhibition that explores the many obsessions, vices and passions of the individual. Obsession is a phenomena familiar to most, a magnetic pull from an object, person, or environment, or in the case of the artist–the impulse to figure out a subject or material. Artists Cassandra Balado and Jack Cox manipulate the senses through a range of pieces focusing on flesh, human form, scale and material. Personal compulsions are at the core of each piece which help to magnify the viewers affinity to each piece. This show presents an intimate dialogue between both the artists and the subjects they choose to analyze. Viewers are invited into this very personal environment to contemplate their own compulsions and what drives them.
