Exploring Near-death Experiences

EXPLORING NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES
Two Presentations by Robert and Suzanne Mays

November 2, 2019

3 pm: UNDERSTANDING CONSCIOUSNESS & REALITY

Near-death experiences (NDEs) strongly suggest that human beings consist of a non-material, spiritual aspect united with the physical body. In the NDE, the non-material mind-entity separates from the body and can have accurate perceptions of the physical surroundings. The mind-entity or psyche interacts with the physical brain to produce our ordinary experience of consciousness. NDErs also have hyper-real experiences of a transcendent spiritual realm. In both realms, they report encounters with deceased persons and spiritual beings. From NDE evidence, the transcendent realm interpenetrates and is coextensive with the physical realm, and is more fundamental than the physical. It is a “fifth dimension” of reality. NDE phenomena help elucidate ultimate questions: Who am I? What is the purpose of physical life? Why does a loving God allow suffering and evil to exist?

7 pm: PROPHETIC VISIONS IN NDEs

Two key elements in many NDEs relate to time: the life review (a panoramic presentation of the events of the NDEr’s life) and the life preview (visions of likely future events in the NDEr’s personal life, or in world events). In this talk, we focus on prophetic visions of future world events in NDEs. These visions can be very detailed and accurate, and can be viewed as admonitions or warnings. They also show that the future can be changed based on our free-will choices. We will describe visions that have relevance to events occurring now, or in the foreseeable future, provide indications what they may mean, and suggest how our responses might change the outcomes. If these prophetic visions are warnings of future events, it is crucial that we adopt a positive and accepting attitude toward the future, and adjust how we relate to others to be more loving, accepting, tolerant, and kind.

Robert and Suzanne Mays have studied the phenomena related to near-death experiences (NDEs) together for over 40 years, although neither has had a near-death experience. They have also extensively studied anthroposophy and the works of Rudolf Steiner, and were involved in founding the Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill, NC. Suzanne serves as a class holder of the School for Spiritual Science in North Carolina, since 2005.
