New York’s fountains are more than just decorative features – they are historical landmarks, cultural touchstones, and dynamic works of art. They were designed to honor men and women of accomplishment, memorialize events, and at one time, keep citizens from drinking too much alcohol. New York’s fountains are classical and ornate or modern and streamlined. They celebrate firemen, authors, social workers and more, while providing a peaceful oasis amid the city’s glass and stone.
The new book, Fabulous Fountains of New York, features waterworks both old and new, famous and little known. It shares the stories of how they came to be, the people behind them, and what makes those fountains special. The presentation will highlight a number of waterworks, including those in Washington Square and Jackson Square parks.
The virtual tour will be led by Stephanie Azzarone and Robert F. Rodriguez, the author and photographer, respectively, for Fabulous Fountains of New York and Heaven on the Hudson: Mansions, Monuments and Marvels of Riverside Park. Stephanie is a former journalist who also ran her own public relations agency and is now a licensed New York City tour guide. Robert was formerly a photo editor for Gannett Newspapers and The Daily Mail.
