Fall Gala 2018

On Wednesday, November 28th at Carnegie Hall, MasterVoices will present an oratorio whose story of oppression and people driven from their homeland feels ripped right from the headlines –Handel’s Israel in Egypt.

Adapting a premiere production that won raves for the LA Master Chorale this past February, MasterVoices’ production under Artistic Director/Conductor Ted Sperling will feature a cadre of New York City’s finest talents, from superb vocal soloists who, including acclaimed countertenor John Holiday and brilliant soprano Mikaela Bennett, are current or former members of the Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts at Juilliard, and visual design by Syrian-Armenian artist Kevork Mourad, whose process of live painting will be projected onto a large screen during the performance. Mourad performs his art as both a vital act of remembering and a defiant demonstration of creativity in the face of tragedy.

The themes of Israel in Egypt reverberate in timely and troubling ways. Our gala will honor two organizations working tirelessly to ameliorate the suffering of those who face a similar plight today: the International Rescue Committee and Artolution. Aside from their respective legacies, these courageous institutions also do groundbreaking work together, including the provision of youth- and community-based public art projects in multiple Syrian refugee camps.

The evening will begin at 6 pm with pre-concert cocktails in the Rose Museum, followed by dinner in the Rohatyn Room, an 8 pm performance, and a post-performance dessert reception with the artists in the Rose Museum. Please contact Christopher Judd at [email protected] or 646-435-9052 for more information or to donate by phone.
