“The Falsification of Time”: Carol Mancusi-Ungaro and Yve-Alain Bois on Art Conservation

Carol Mancusi-Ungaro, Melva Bucksbaum Associate Director for Conservation and Research, will present a lecture entitled “The Falsification of Time,” a term used by artist Sol LeWitt. The lecture will position complex issues associated with the art of our time, including replication and 3D printing, in the historical context of art conservation. Yve-Alain Bois, Professor of Art History at the Institute for Advanced Study, will join Mancusi-Ungaro in conversation after the lecture.

This program marks the selection of Mancusi-Ungaro as the recipient of the 2016 Forbes Prize, the highest award that the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) gives internationally. “Falsification of Time” is a version of the Forbes Prize Lecture that Mancusi-Ungaro delivered to the IIC Congress in Los Angeles in September 2016.
