Fashion in European Art: Dress and Identity, Politics and the Body

Katie Murphy Amphitheatre

Fred P. Pomertanz Art and Design Center

FIT Assistant Professor Justine De Young will discuss her new book, Fashion in European Art, with MFIT director Valerie Steele. Illustrated with a lavish array of images, their conversation will range over topics such as fashion, art, and politics; the controversy surrounding mannequins and monkeys; and sexual identity in men’s portraiture. You will never look at paintings like Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte the same way again.

A book signing will follow the conversation.

Please note that attending is on a first-come, first-served basis with RSVP.
