Is Feminism Too White and Middle Class?: Moving Towards Solutions

As a follow-up to our last meeting on Black women and Feminism we will continue the conversation and begin to look for ways we can improve our interactions with each other.

This evening we shall examine some of the problematic aspects of the mainstream feminist movement with regard to race and class.

Objectives:

• Gaining new anti-racist tools in order to mobilize one’s immediate community

• Better understanding of intersectionality, essentialism, and the feminist movement

• Willingness to listen to/engage in challenging conversations with others

• Desire to take action and make choices that stress anti-oppressive practices
