Milk (2008) — Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk, the San Francisco activist who became the first openly gay elected official in California before his assassination in 1978. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the film traces Milk's journey from a camera shop owner in the Castro to a galvanizing political figure whose legacy shaped the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Winner of two Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Penn. Also starring Josh Brolin and Emile Hirsch.
