Finding Gratitude in Trying Times

This class is taking place remotely. If you have registered for the class, you will receive an email with details of how to access it.

Just as coronavirus is highly infectious so is anxiety—and the consequences are severe.

When people panic, they become selfish—thinking and acting only in their own interests. That’s when the social bonds that connect and sustain us break down. We’ve already seen hoarding and shortages; ultimately, this descends into a kind of Darwinian, every-man-for-himself nightmare of social fragmentation and disintegration.

The emotional heroes of this crisis will be the ones who don’t give into anxiety—who instead display courage and a spirit of giving and sacrifice. You can be that person. But not without staying connected to the abundant good fortune you receive every moment of every day. This workshop will teach you a tool you can use in less than 10 seconds that will enable you dispel the negative thoughts and feelings—and rise up to your best self. Become a true hero to yourself and the people around you.

Barry Michels was profiled in the March 21, 2011 issue of The New Yorker (“Hollywood Shadows, A Cure For Blocked Screenwriters,” by Dana Goodyear.) With his co-author, Phil Stutz, he wrote the New York Times bestseller The Tools in 2012, and its sequel, Coming Alive, in 2017. He has published numerous articles in Psychology TodaySalon, and Quora. Featured by Joel Stein in Time Magazine, he has also been interviewed on NightlineDr. OzLawrence O’Donnell, and Charlie Rose. Barry has given his signature workshops at a variety of venues, including the Goop In Health Summits in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and London. Additionally, he has spoken at 20th Century Fox Television, the University Club of Chicago, the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck and Costa Rica, the Writers’ Guild, and the Endeavor 2019 annual retreat. Barry received his A.B., magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1975, his J.D. (law degree) from University of California Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), in 1979, and his M.S.W. from U.S.C. School of Social Work in 1984. He currently splits his time between his clinical practice in Los Angeles and the speeches and workshops he gives around the world.
