Friends–A Way to Like the World & People!

Friends–A Way to Like the World & People! That is the subject young people ages 5 through 12 will have the exciting opportunity to learn about when they attend the Learning to Like the World class on Saturday, March 17th. The class will take place from 11 AM to 12:15 PM.
Children, like all people, are often confused and troubled, on the subject. For instance, children can wonder why a friendship has turned sour. Or two youngsters can be exclusive and sneer at others.
In this class, children will learn what real friendship is. No matter what young people are doing together–texting, playing catch, or doing homework–there is some-thing they want both encouraged and to encourage in someone all the time: to like the world, to know and be honestly affected by it. In the March 17th class, taught by Barbara Allen and Robert Murphy, girls and boys will discuss these kind and important sentences from the chapter Caring for Somebody, in the book Childrens Guide to Parents & Other Matters, by Eli Siegel, the founder of Aesthetic Realism:
“When you care for somebody, James, youre happy that this person is alive, and youre happy to show your happiness; and you want what that person is to be more and more you; and what you are to be more and more that person; and at the same time, you want to be fair to every other person and every other thing and not to forget about them. In fact, at this time, James, you care for other people more, because you care for one person you can see by herself.”

Children will be learning how to be a true friend. Boys and girls will find out how they can be fair to other children, including of another skin tone or cultural background. What a wonderful, deep, and necessary way of seeing!
