Frozen in Time | Sarah C. Butler, Vicki Goldberg, Alison Morley | An Artist Dialogue Series Event

In celebration of Sarah C. Butler’s new book Frozen in Time author and critic Vicki Goldberg joins the artist for a discussion moderated by editor Alison Morley.

A photographic narrative chronicling a turbulent mother-daughter relationship in the serene setting of a beautiful but decrepit Maine home, Frozen in Time is at once beautiful and heart-wrenching. Sarah Butler’s gorgeous photographs tell a poignant story of coming to terms with a difficult mother in a way that is both intimately personal and universally relatable.

Drawn to reconnect with her mother after a long estrangement, the artist found that photography allowed her the perspective to understand and respect her mother’s choices. The deeply emotional images, from a pair of little girls’ dresses that her mother kept for decades to a corner of the house with its foundation propped upon a pile of rocks, reveal a complex and compelling psychological narrative. Frozen in Time is a book about family, distance and reconciliation, and, finally, the beauty found in acceptance.

Copies of Frozen in Time (Glitterati Incorporated, December 2016) are available for purchase and signing at the end of the event.
