Gert Berliner: About People, Book Signing and Discussion

Join us in the second floor art department of the Strand Book Store (828 Broadway at 12th) as Gert Berliner sits down with publisher Marshall Brooks and award-winning journalist and NPR editor Uri Berliner to discuss his new photography book ABOUT PEOPLE.

ABOUT PEOPLE Photographs, by Gert Berliner, showcases not only Berliner’s brilliant eye but memorably celebrates people, both the known and the unknown, on two continents in work taken from the late 1950s through the mid-1960s. Photographer, painter, and former filmmaking colleague of Robert Frank (“PULL MY DAISY”; “SIN OF JESUS”; “O.K. END HERE”), Gert Berliner’s unerring street photographer’s sensibility is second to none as this generous first time ever collection of his essential work makes plain. Exhibitor at New York City’s groundbreaking Image Gallery, contributor to HARPER’S BAZAAR, the NEW YORK TIMES, and NEW YORK magazine, as well as numerous other publications and books, ABOUT PEOPLE is sure to win favor with a broad photography audience.

Recent exhibitions of Gert Berliner’s photographs have included the “IMAGE GALLERY REDUX 1959-1962”, Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York (2014) and a solo exhibit of work, “NEW YORK THE SIXTIES”, at Galerie Argus Fotokunst, Berlin, Germany (2016). Born in Berlin in 1924, Gert Berliner is a longtime resident of the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife, Frances.
