Green Dreams: The Nuclear Imagination

Green Dreams, a series of discussions on utopian architecture, science and ecology, presents “The Nuclear Imagination.”

From the utopian Atoms for Peace campaign to the environmental imperatives of the 1960s and 70s to the science fiction of the 1980s, the nuclear power reactor has held a near constant but ever-shifting position within popular culture. The talk will work through these various meanings and will look towards what value this history could hold for a future of architecture.

Peter Zuspan is cofounder and principal of the architecture and design studio Bureau V. The studio’s recent design of the Brooklyn nonprofit chamber music hall National Sawdust has one numerous awards and has been described by The New York Times as “the city’s most vital new-music hall.” Zuspan has taught architecture at Columbia University, Syracuse University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
