Heroes and Heroines: Women in Shakespeare with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Cush Jumbo, and Michael Witmore

The New-York Historical Society is proud to be New York State’s venue for the exhibition First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, which will bring the 1623 original edition of the playwright’s first published collection to the U.S. In recognition of this extraordinary month-long presentation, join us for an evening with special guests as they discuss the influence of Shakespeare and his characters on their own lives.

Kirsten Gillibrand has served as a U.S. Senator representing New York State since 2009. Cush Jumbo plays Lucca Quinn in CBS’s hit drama, The Good Wife. Her expansive experience in New York theater includes The Taming of the Shrew, currently showing as part of Free Shakespeare in the Park, and the award-winning one-woman show, Josephine and I, at The Public. Michael Witmore (moderator) is Director of the Folger Shakespeare Library.
