‘Hollywood Film Noir: Femme Fatales to Smiling Psychopaths’ Webinar

A gorgeous mystery woman who may be a victim or a killer. An L.A. private eye who seeks a missing man and finds a trail of bodies—along with suspects that include pornographers and drug addicts. A cackling sociopath who pushes a wheelchair-bound woman to her death down a flight of stairs. During its prime in the golden age of Hollywood, the genre of film noir gave us many of movies’ most seductive and chilling moments — it’s time to unwrap the complex stories and characters from classic film noir, embodied by actors who became icons of this genre’s shadowy world of beauty, bent morality, and bloodstains.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore key movies starring four noir icons — Gene Tierney, Richard Widmark, Ida Lupino, and Humphrey Bogart — to discover why their films remain as sexy, exciting, and relevant today as they were when they first stunned viewers in the 1940s.

Hosted by noir documentarian Steven C. Smith, our virtual experience surrounding noir classics like Laura, Kiss of Death, and The Big Sleep, will include:

  • An overview of the noir movement in Hollywood, and how these violent, sexually charged films made it through Hollywood’s strict censorship of the era
  • Rare video interviews with the noir filmmakers, and those who knew them well
  • Revealing stories about the turbulent, sometimes tragic personal lives that informed the actors’ performances
  • Intimate behind-the-scenes photos from the productions

Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Steven — any and all questions about film noir icons are welcomed and encouraged!
