Imagine This Presents Its 1st Annual Women’s International Film Festival

Inaugural Women’s International Film Festival in Brooklyn from November 12-13 to Showcase Films from 15 Countries Brooklyn, NY: Imagine This Productions has launched the Women’s International Film Festival with the aim to celebrate and empower independent and aspiring women filmmakers from around the world. The two day event will be held at Brooklyn’s Wythe Hotel from November 12-13 and will feature 29 shorts and 6 feature films from female storytellers across 15 countries.

Among the festival selection, 8 will be making their international debut and an additional 5 will be shown in the US for the first time. A number of films will touch on themes related to personal struggles within political and social conflicts across the world.

The half-hour film “Shireen of Al-Walaja” by director Daz Chandler will screen on Sunday, November 13 at 1:55pm kicking off a one-hour block of three short documentaries. The film presents an intimate portrait of a dynamic and popular Palestinian resistance leader, who left her full-time job at the UN to return to her home village of al-Walaja and fight for her community.

Trans, a documentary feature directed by Renata Baldi, plays at 3:05pm on Sunday. The film shares the stories of transgender individuals in Brazil across different walks of life who were born into bodies they do not identify themselves with.

The documentary feature Women Are the Answer directed by Fiona Cochrane running at 4:15pm on Sunday looks closely at the Indian state of Kerala, which has successfully achieved population control without coercion through promotion of female education. The film has won awards at the 2016 Mexico International Film Festival and the 2016 World Human Rights Awards in Indonesia, among others.
