Join the New-York Historical Society for Revolutionary Summer opening day by exploring George Washington’s encampment! Enter the Headquarters Tent, meet the man himself, and experience daily life in the Continental Army.

Also on tap: singalongs with the Hudson River Ramblers, fife and drum corps music, and Living Historians.

John Adams Reads the Declaration of Independence | 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm.
Join us for a live reading from President John Adams, as portrayed by a Living Historian, who’ll read the hallowed text in the Library.

Family-Friendly Lunch | 11 am-2 pm 
Available for cash-only purchase on the second floor. Pick up a classic Fourth of July hot dog and a flag-shaped sugar cookie.

George Washington’s Headquarters Tent
Step inside the world of General George Washington as he leads the Continental Army to victory. The centerpiece of Revolutionary Summer, a replica of Washington’s Headquarters Tent, is on display in our outdoor courtyard on select weekends this summer. On loan from the Museum of the American Revolution (MoAR), the painstakingly detailed, hand-sewn replica was created in a collaboration between MoAR and Colonial Williamsburg. The Tent is staffed by MoAR educators, who lead visitors on an immersive tour through history.
