The Explorers Club will host a rare, firsthand journey to one of the most consequential places on Earth: the rapidly changing Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica’s Amundsen Sea.

On 13 March, the Club welcomes Professor David Holland, a leading polar scientist whose recent expedition aboard the Korean icebreaker RV Araon ventured into the remote waters where warm ocean currents are destabilizing the glacier from below.

Holland will present new insights from this high‑risk, high‑reward mission, including navigating shifting sea ice, deploying ocean instruments under extreme conditions, and collaborating with an international team working to understand the future of global sea‑level rise.

Attendees can expect gripping field stories, cutting‑edge science, and a clear-eyed examination of the glacier often called the “Doomsday Glacier,” a place whose fate may influence coastlines for generations.

This event is intended for explorers, scientists, and anyone interested in the front lines of a changing planet.

In-person tickets are $20 for Members and $35 for the General Public. Check-in begins at 6:00 pm, followed by a beer and wine reception from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.
