The Italian Tragedies of Lord Byron

Evening Crane Theatre will present a double-header production of the Italian Tragedies of Lord Byron, Marino Faliero Doge of Venice and The Two Foscari, Sunday February 26th at Theatre 80 St. Marks.

Byron’s Italian Tragedies follow the scandals, schemes, and downfalls of two historical Doges, exploring questions of justice, freedom of expression, and the corruption of power. Published in 1821, both plays held a lasting influence over nineteenth-century painters, composers and poets – from Delacroix to Verdi to A.C. Swinburne.

Evening Crane Theatre will resurrect both Tragedies the Sunday before Mardi Gras 2017 in a production featuring masks by Storm Garner and Ariel Kleinberg, directed by Michael Seebold. Veronica Nolte will star as the Doge Faliero in the first tragedy, Corey Tuccillo as the Doge Foscari in the second.

The plays contain frightening scenes and may not be suitable for young children.

Tickets start at $15 and are on sale through Theatre 80’s box office & website.
