JERK: Or The Stimulation of Self

CRITICAL POINT THEATRE TO PRESENT WORD PREMIERE OF PSYCHODRAMA JERK

On August 24th, a new psychodrama from the mind of Andrew Terrance Kaberline (A List of Irrational Fears for Future Leaders of the World) will make its world premiere at The Hive NYC. The play will open August 24th and run through September 2nd. JERK: Or, The Stimulation of Self is directed by Dylan James Amick and produced by Julia Katz and Critical Point Theatre.

Tickets are $25 (senior/student discount available) or $40 for the performance and a party featuring unlimited free food and drinks to be served at the venue. Tickets are available now at http://cptjerk.bpt.me.

JERK follows James, who claims to be a sex addict. Elizabeth isn’t so sure. What they do know is that neither one of them is alright. What appears to be a play about the contemptuous relationship between a patient and his doctor, devolves into madness after some sudden twists in circumstance end in a dangerous frenzy of self-medicating. JERK is a psychological drama about the state of monogamy in burgeoning adults. This play is a nightmare that lies somewhere between an expressionistic dream sequence and a series of worn out memories.

Critical Point Theatre was founded in 2013 to create an ensemble-governed space where new works that were not bound by medium were put through their paces, engaging in a lengthy critical process before opening. It’s a theatre of thoughtfulness, in which we constantly ask ourselves if the stories we select are worth telling. In creating a raucous mix of transmedia projects that aim to close the gap, we want to push boldly beyond boundaries and thus, strengthen the fabric of communities. Along the way, we have performed in eight cities, two countries, and five festivals while producing a rotating mix of award-winning podcasts.
