‘John Lennon: Liverpool x New York’ Webinar

“My love of New York, is something to do with Liverpool. There is the same quality of energy in both cities.” – John Lennon

How did a kid from a small neighborhood in Liverpool start a band that would quickly become one of the biggest global music acts of all time? This is the incredible true story of how the working class hero of Liverpool used his musical chops to change the world.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the life and legacy of singer/songwriter John Lennon, with a focus on his time growing up — and passing through — his hometown of Liverpool, England.

Led by tour guide Jackie Spencer, who is one of the few official Beatles Tourist Guides in Liverpool, our virtual experience on the eve of what would have been John Lennon’s 80th birthday will include:

  • John’s early years, from his birth during a WWII blitz to his unusual childhood growing up in the suburbs of Liverpool, England
  • The full story behind how his schoolboy band, The Quarrymen, evolved into The Beatles
  • virtual trip to significant locations throughout Liverpool that defined John’s life, including the Churchyard where Lennon met Paul McCartney; his first recording studio; the former children’s home known as Strawberry Field; and clubs such as the Cavern, The Casbah, and The Jacaranda, where the band performed their early gigs
  • Exclusive photos and videos along the way
  • The Liverpool Legacy that celebrates John Lennon in 2020, 80 years after his birth
  • A discussion around the many Liverpool x New York connections, from Strawberry Field to Strawberry Fields

Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Jackie — any and all questions about John Lennon are welcomed and encouraged!

About Jackie

Jackie Spencer is a native Liverpudlian, accent and all. Born in the same hospital as Paul in 1961, just as The Beatles were starting to make their mark. She has been a Liverpool Blue Badge Guide, the top accolade in British Tourism for 25 years and is also a fully qualified official Beatles Tourist Guide in Liverpool. Ms. Spencer cut her teeth originally on the Magical Mystery Tour Bus and now offers bespoke tours for avid fans. She is a regular on Sirius Radio’s Beatles Channel, Ken Dashow’s ‘Breakfast with The Beatles” and has appeared in several Beatles documentaries.

Although many describe Jackie as a ‘Beatles Historian’ she doesn’t count herself as an academic, just a fan with a passion to show off her home town, and her pride in the Fab Four who helped put Liverpool of the musical map.
