Kamau Ware “Other Side of Wall Street”: Slavery in Early NYC

An evening with Kamau Ware, who is an artist and historian, best known for his storytelling project, Black Gotham Experience (BGX), an immersive multimedia project founded in 2010 that celebrates the impact of the African Diaspora on New York City through a series of walking tours and graphic novels.

At RB, Kamau will present his new graphic novel, the first of a trilogy of books that start in 1625 when the first slave ships arrived in the harbors of Manhattan, and move forward through the next three centuries: “Other Side of Wall Street,” “Caesar’s Rebellion”, and “Citizen Hope.”

BGX has been featured in the NYTimes, Time Out New York, and Kamau Ware has also made appearances on NBC, ABC, and Huffington Post Live.

This evening is one of the official “Bookend” events of the Brooklyn Book Festival, and will take place at Revolution Books in Harlem.
