Project Maven is a nonfiction account of the U.S. military’s early efforts to harness artificial intelligence for warfare—and the ethical, political, and technological battles that followed.

The book centers on Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative launched in 2017 to use AI to analyze drone surveillance footage, helping identify objects and potential targets more quickly than human analysts alone. Manson traces how the project became a flashpoint in the relationship between Silicon Valley and the military.
