Kevin Rudd on U.S.-China Relations in 2019

With a trade war raging between the world’s two largest economies, the leaders of the United States and China will meet at the end of November on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Argentina. Whether Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are able to reach a resolution on trade issues will likely determine the success of the overall summit and have tremendous implications for the global economy. The summit also offers the two leaders their first chance to address in person the broader critiques their governments have issued against one another over the past few months.

On December 5, a few days after the summit, Asia Society Policy Institute President Kevin Ruddwill give a major address on the U.S.-China relationship, focusing on the future of the trade war, the Chinese economy, and the politics of the bilateral relationship. Rudd will share his thoughts on how this critical relationship is positioned going into 2019.

His remarks will be followed by a short question and answer session.

Speaker:

Kevin Rudd is the inaugural President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. He served as 26th Prime Minister of Australia (2007 to 2010, 2013) and as Foreign Minister (2010 to 2012).
