Grolier member Suzanne Karr Schmidt, Newberry Library Curator of Rare Books, will give a talk on her discoveries about centuries of books and printed images impressed on fabric. In a vibrant and multilayered preview of a Newberry exhibition, Impressive Textiles: Printing on Fabric (opening Dec. 10), she will explore this overlooked medium's incarnations from satin papal portraits and Foulis Classics on linen to cotton George Washington handkerchiefs. The exhibition catalogue will be available for sale and signing at the talk, and Jamie Cumby, the Grolier Club's Ellen A. Michelson Librarian, will display rare fabric printings from the club's collection.
