Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale imagined a theocracy built on the control of women's bodies. This lecture examines how the gender dynamics, government intervention, and reproductive politics of Atwood's Gilead mirror forces at work in contemporary society — and offers tools to better understand, name, and resist them.
Alexandra Stamson, PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut and public philosopher, traces the history of women's rights and the modern ideologies that seek to undermine them through a feminist philosophical lens.
