Da-Da-Da-DUM. They’re the four most famous notes in music history. You’ve heard them in commercials, movie scores, and even a classic 1976 disco remix—but what makes them so powerful? What do they reveal about the inner workings of this extraordinary piece? And how can those answers unlock the secret to enjoying and understanding classical music?
Using engaging recorded examples, Prof. Delvyn Case will guide a deep dive into one of the most dramatic and compelling orchestral works ever written: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. No musical experience is necessary—just bring your ears and your curiosity.
Delvyn Case is Professor of Music at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, where he conducts the Great Woods Symphony Orchestra. As a composer, his music has been performed by over 100 orchestras, including the Boston Pops, and by numerous Grammy-winning artists. For 25 years, he has been teaching, writing, and speaking about music to audiences of all ages, helping them hear, understand, and enjoy music in new ways.
