Lambda literary finalist Scott Alexander Hess celebrates the launch of his newest LGBTQ historical novel River Runs Red with an evening of sizzling readings and discussion with author Robert Levy (Lambda Literary finalist for The Glittering World) and writer Darley Stewart (recipient of a 2016 Fiction International Fellowship from Seoul Art Space). The trio will talk about Hess’ novel set in 1891, as well as the evolution of queer fiction.
Scott Alexander Hess earned his MFA in creative writing from The New School. Skyscraper, his fourth novel, was named a Lambda Literary Award 2016 Finalist. The Butcher’s Sons, his third novel, was named one of Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2015. His work has been translated into German. Scott teaches fiction writing at Gotham Writers in Manhattan. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Hess now lives in Manhattan, New York with his husband.
Robert Levy’s first novel The Glittering World was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award and the Shirley Jackson Award, while shorter work has appeared in The Best Horror of the Year, Wilde Stories: The Year’s Best Gay Speculative Fiction, and The Year’s Best Hardcore Horror. A Brooklyn native, he teaches at the Stonecoast MFA Program in Creative Writing and his novella Anaïs Nin at the Grand Guignol is forthcoming from Lethe Press.
Darley Stewart is a Scottish-Korean fiction writer based in New York, represented by Chris Bucci at CookeMcDermid. She is at work on her first novel. Her shorter pieces have appeared in Tin House (online), Joyland Magazine, Funhouse Magazine (UK, online), The Ocean State Review, Flapperhouse, The Brooklyn Rail, The Battersea Review, Electric Literature and elsewhere.
