Longwood Walking Tour 2026

Take a historic stroll with The Bronx County Historical Society and David Herszenson through Longwood.

Longwood is an area in the South Bronx that is named for the nineteenth-century Longwood estate. The neighborhood urbanized at the turn of the last century, attracting immigrants from the tenements of Manhattan, followed by Caribbean immigrants mid century. Some of the sites that we will encounter on this walk include a historic district of turn of the century homes, public art installation depicting local residents, century old former synagogues, a Carnegie library, and the oldest Latin music store in New York City.
