Lower Literacy: It’s Not the User, It’s the Product!

Accessibility NYC Meetup – June 4 2019 at Thoughtbot NYC

Reading is a complex activity for our brains. We need to associate letters with sounds, and to understand the meaning of this music. Unfortunately for some users, this does not always work smoothly. It is complicated for people with reading or cognitive impairments but also for everybody depending on the context. Luckily, there are a lot of small improvements and tips every designer, content-writer and developer can use in a project to improve the life of all users. PRESENTER Damien Senger is a queer designer working as a Design Systems & Accessibility Lead in the healthcare industry for Castor EDC, in Amsterdam. Speaker, teacher and passionate about too many things, they fight every day for a more inclusive web. Through their different projects, Damien is trying to make the Web a more inclusive and accessible place, while focusing on collaboration and mentoring. By the way, Damien identifies as agender, so their pronouns are they/them.
