Lyric Relation with Jos Charles

Jos Charles presents a lecture on Édouard Glissant, literary encounter, and lyric relation.

This talk centers the uses of the lyric, of writing and reading lyrically, through an engagement with the work of Édouard Glissant. Utilizing historical definitions of the lyric alongside Glissant’s critical and literary work, the poetry collection Boises is considered especially as an instance of the lyric as a method for literary encounter and as a possible method for broader social and political encounters.

Jos Charles is author of feeld, Pulitzer-finalist and winner of the 2017 National Poetry Series, and Safe Space (Ahsahta Press). In 2016 she received the Ruth Lilly & Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship through the Poetry Foundation. Jos Charles has an MFA from the University of Arizona. She is a PhD student at UC Irvine and currently resides in Long Beach, CA.
