Interview by CUNY Professor Bettina Lerner

On December 5, 2016, the @Macaulay Author Series presents Laurence Bergreen and his new book Casanova: The World of Seductive Genius. Bergreen, also known for his biographies of Christopher Columbus, Marco Polo, Ferdinand Magellan, among other, tells the full story of Giacomo Casanova, an 18th Century figure whose libidinous reputation and name have become synonymous with “great lover.” The author provides a comprehensive portrait of this fascinating man, including Casanova’s travels that took him to the royal courts of France, Great Britain and Russia, and who wrote and exchanged philosophical letters with Voltaire.

CUNY Graduate Center assistant professor Bettina Lerner, Deputy Chair of the French Department at City College, will interview Bergreen about the book. The evening’s discussion will include Q&A for the audience.

The program, which is free and open to the public at CUNY’s Macaulay Honors College, runs 7pm-9pm at 35 West 67th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). The author will sign the books, which will be available for purchase. Reservations are recommended. Please RSVP: http://macaulay.cuny.edu/event/registration/?ee=121
