On February 18, 1965, Malcolm X gave his last public speech, at Barnard College in the LeFrak Gymnasium—he was assassinated just three days later at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem. Join Barnard for a special event commemorating this historic speech.

Enjoy a screening of an interview Malcolm X gave to ABC right before his final speech, followed by a student performance and a panel discussion exploring Malcolm X’s life and work. Panelists include Jane Relin ’66 and Ellen Wolkin Friedman ’66, who invited Malcolm X to Barnard; Malcolm X scholar Stephen Tuck of Oxford University, author of The Night Malcolm X Spoke at the Oxford Union: A Transatlantic Story of Antiracist Protest; Bayyinah Jeffries of Ohio University, author of A Nation Can Rise No Higher Than Its Women: African American Muslim Women in the Movement for Black Self-Determination, 1950-1975; and Bryan Epps, executive director of the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in New York.
