Master Class With Hadieh Shafie

In this course, students will explore the process of collagraphy, an experimental approach to building a plate through a process that incorporates both additive and subtractive techniques.
Students will get an introduction to the materials, techniques, and paper preparation. The instructor will demonstrate the inking and printing of the plate, and students will then print their own edition.
Students should come to class prepared with the following:
Various collage materials that have texture or shape such as: lace/ sandpaper/ fabric/ thread / ribbons.

Tools: x-acto knife/ scissors/ Elmer’s glue/ Blotter paper (2 sheets) / BFK Rives White (4 sheets) / Newsprint Pad / 3 acid free 4ply Matt board 8×10” / latex or non latex gloves/ aprons/ tarlatan/ paper towels/ sketch book/ Metal Ruler/ Brush/ Bone File.

This course is organized in conjunction with the exhibition, “I open my eyes and see myself under a tree laden with fruit that I cannot name.”.
