Master Class With Jean-Claude Van Itallie

Jean-Claude Van Itallie was a central force in the 60’s explosive off-off Broadway. An original LaMama playwright, among his over thirty works: acclaimed anti Vietnam war play “America Hurrah,” “The Serpent,” (for Open Theater ensemble), “Light,” “Fear Itself, Secrets of the White House,” “Tibetan Book of the Dead,” and widely produced translations of Chekhov’s major plays.  In 1999, he performed his one-man show, “War, Sex, Singing, and Dancing” in Santa Monica and at LaMama. Author of “The Playwright’s Workbook,” van Itallie teaches writing/performance workshops around the country.  He is director of Shantigar Foundation for theater/meditation/healing, located on the beautiful old farm in Western Massachusetts where he’s lives.
