The Metal Industry in Flemish Paintings: From the Iron of Cathedral to New York Skyscrapers

This event is presented under the high patronage of  H. E. François Delattre, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations.

Laureate of Institut de France Florence de Voldère will discuss the aesthetics of metal in painting, opening up new avenues through which one can understand Flemish art.

The lecture is inspired by Florence de Voldère’s book The Metal Industry in Flemish Paintings: From the Iron of Cathedral to New York Skyscrapers, winner of the 2011 Institut de France award. The author will lead us on a journey through the Renaissance in Flanders, focusing on the Bruegel dynasty and the way it shaped what we now consider to be the Flemish artistic identity.

In English. Free and open to the public with RSVP here.

Part of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the French Heritage Society.
