Michael Stipe with Douglas Coupland and Jonathan Berger: A Visual Record

Multifaceted artist Michael Stipe investigates the intersection of analog imagery in a digital world.

Before he left school to become the frontman for R.E.M., Michael Stipe was a studio art major at the University of Georgia. It was there that he developed a creative sensibility that would inform all graphic, video, and stage design for the band, as well his approach to writing, composing, and performing. In a new book of photography that draws on his vast personal archive, Stipe explores visual representations of the current moment, mining the space where halftone meets pixels. Canadian artist and author Douglas Coupland, who collaborated with Stipe on Our Interference Times, will join him and cross-disciplinary artist Jonathan Berger in conversation.
