Mike Fu With YZ Chin

The 15-million copy bestselling travelogue-memoir, Stories of the Sahara, has had fans of legendary Taiwanese author Sanmao learning another language to read her work since its original publication in 1976. Now, for the first time, it will be available in English, translated by Brooklyn-based writer, translator, and editor Mike Fu. Stories of the Sahara invites us into Sanmao’s extraordinary life in the desert: her experiences of love and loss, freedom and peril. At a period when China was only just beginning to look beyond its borders, Sanmao broke tradition as one of its first women to travel so widely around the world, firing the imagination of millions and inspiring a new generation. Fu reads from Sanmao’s work and discusses her legacy with YZ Chin, author of Though I Get Home and the forthcoming Modulo, at this evening’s event.
