Modern Death: A Conversation About Death, Dying, and Options with Haider Warraich, M.D.

Join Haider Warraich, M.D. as he discusses his debut book, Modern Death, with Compassion and Choices NY Campaign Director, Corinne Carey. Learn about the rituals of death and how trends and events have transformed this most final of human experiences. Co-presented with Housing Works and Compassion and Choices, the nation’s oldest, largest and most active nonprofit working to improve care and expand options for the end of life. Dr. Warraich will read an excerpt from the book and lead an audience Q&A. Compassion and Choices will speak to the aid in dying legislation in New York and how you can get involved. Amanda Cavanaugh, Outreach Coordinator for Compassion and Choices, will moderate the evening. A signing will follow, books will be on sale to benefit Housing Works, courtesy of a donation from St. Martin’s Press. Refreshments will be available for purchase at our cafe.

“Haider Warraich’s elegant and poignant book takes us on an unforgettable journey. Warraich’s quest is remarkable: He wants us to confront the act of dying. A caring and thoughtful doctor, he also writes beautifully–drawing from his own patients and from statistics, medical ethics, literature, and the sciences. He succeeds in humanizing a complex topic and gives us remarkable insights about the changing nature of ‘modern death.’” – Siddhartha Mukherjee, New York Times bestselling author of The Emperor of All Maladies and The Gene
