MOFAD x Gastro Obscura Presents: Kitchen Remix

In her newly released cookbook, Kitchen Remix, Charlotte Druckman writes, “Kitchen Remix teaches you how to combine ingredients.  It identifies the definitive staples of today’s pantry and shows you what you can do with them.  With a well-rounded supply of ingredients in your kitchen, you can resourcefully cobble a meal together without having to go to the store all the time.”

When Druckman wrote Kitchen Remix, her intention was to write a book for people that may or may not have confidence in their ability to combine a few ingredients and create something delicious. Kitchen Remix is a guide to using ingredients you might already have in ways that are both unexpected and uncomplicated. The goal of the book is to empower people to feel less intimidated in the kitchen; the ethos being that once you have a few simple techniques mastered, cooking becomes less of a chore and more of a simple act of pleasure.

What Druckman did not anticipate was that her book would be released during a pandemic and she would have surreptitiously written a guide for getting creative with ingredients during a time when self-reliance and resourcefulness in the kitchen are critical.

As part of MOFAD’s online program series with Gastro Obscura, Druckman will be in conversation with Paula Forbes, editor of the beloved cookbook newsletter Stained Page News, and the author of The Austin Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from Deep in the Heart of Texas.

Their discussion will consider the significance of Kitchen Remix as it relates to this moment in time and within a larger historical context, as well as other cookbooks throughout history that focused on cooking with limited ingredients, such as MFK Fisher’s How to Cook a Wolf which addressed cooking during a time of war-time food shortages.

Tickets for admission are available at two levels: Level One includes a reserved ticket and Level Two includes a reserved ticket plus a copy of Kitchen Remix.  Please note the cost of the book includes shipping and sales tax. Your purchase will support our partner, Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, NY.  Books are not guaranteed to arrive before the event date and cannot be shipped to a PO Box.
