Moon Tree Launch Party

Madison Square Park Conservancy celebrates its Moon Tree — an American Sweetgum sapling grown from seeds that traveled around the Moon aboard NASA's Artemis I mission — on the 57th anniversary of the first lunar space launch.

The free, all-ages afternoon features safe solar viewing, hands-on science experiments, scavenger hunts, an interactive Moon Tree art gallery, guided tours of the Celestial Gardens, and "Ask a Scientist" sessions with working experts. The day also includes the unveiling of a specially commissioned poem by New York State Poet Laureate Kimiko Hahn, a children's presentation at 4:30 p.m., and an outdoor exhibition by Terrestrials featuring original moon tree artwork created by listeners nationwide.

Main celebration runs 4–8 p.m. Free and open to all.
