Movement Talks: Life Skills Through Social Dance

With Pierre Dulaine and Yvonne Marceau, moderated by Edward Henkel.

These renowned show dance champions speak to the success of their in-school social development program Dancing Classrooms as documented in the film Mad Hot Ballroom. Ballroom dancing as an outlet for expression both musically and emotionally has proven to connect students’ positive feelings for one another, focus their physical energy and build self esteem. In 2011 Dulaine conducted a series of DC classes in Jaffa bringing Palestinian-Israeli and Jewish-Israeli children together. This most significant of dance experiences, the moment of truth when partners connect, eyes wide open and in rhythmic harmony shows their discovery of respect, tolerance and often admiration.
