Mummies and Money – Dr. Edward Bleiberg

In the ancient world just like today, you get what you pay for.

The ancient Greek historian Herodotus visited Egypt in the fifth century B.C.E. and found that the quality of human mummification also depended on the family’s willingness and ability to pay. Using the human mummy collection at the Brooklyn Museum, this lecture explores the truth of Herodotus’ description. CT scans and x-rays are used to illustrate the different methods and price levels for ancient Egyptian mummification.
