Museum of Arts and Design: Open Studio Hours

The Museum of Art and Design’s Artist Studios program has gone online! Since 2008, the Artist Studios program has served as an important platform for over 180 artists and designers to advance their careers. Now, every Friday registrants can join in virtual studio visits with select artists via Zoom.

For August 7’s session the hosts will be MAD’s artist-in-residence Patrick Coughlin and Yuki Iriyama Gray. Learn about new directions in contemporary art and design while previewing works in progress and chatting with Patrick and Yuki about their inspirations and creative practices.

Open Studio Hours take place on Fridays at 12 pm and welcome visitors of all ages, families, summer classes and camps, creative cohorts, aspiring artists, and more.

Aug 7: 12:00-12:30 pm ET with Patrick Coughlin 12:30-1:00 pm ET with Yuki Iriyama Gray

Future hosts include Elif Uras and Kazue Taguchi (Aug 14), Rhonda Weppler and Mia Wright-Ross (Aug 21), and Mia Wright-Ross and Dance Doyle (Aug 28).

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Patrick Coughlin examines the ubiquitous, mundane, and inconspicuous aspects of American material culture and domestic spaces. He abstracts structural joinery, furniture, and traditional craft processes to create mixed-media sculptures that consider the hidden complexity and sensuality of everyday objects. Coughlin is currently a senior lecturer at The University of The Arts and an adjunct professor at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Coughlin received an MFA from the University of Florida and a BFA from Syracuse University.

Yuki Iriyama Gray creates furniture and functional sculptures that investigate the materiality and authenticity of objects, and often reference nature, human emotion, and the relationship between people and material. Gray received a BFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design.
