Children of Orpheus
The Helicon Ensemble
As the first musician to be interred in the Roman Pantheon, Arcangelo Corelli stands among the most revered figures of the Baroque era. Praised by contemporaries as Orpheus of his age, his legacy shines through this program, which traces his profound influence across Europe. Works by Handel, Geminiani, and Dall’Abacca showcase the enduring model of his concerto grosso, and arrangements by Shuttleworth and Carbonelli reimagine his violin sonatas as ensemble features. Music of Muffat and Jacquet de la Guerre further show the international reach and acclaim of Corelli’s music, and illustrate how his ingenuity as a defining figure of the Baroque shaped generations of composers following.
