Nadya Tolokonnikova of P*ssy Riot with Mona Eltahawy

BPL Presents is proud to partner with Greenlight Bookstore to host revered international political activist and conceptual artist Nadya Tolokonnikova, founder of the art collective Pussy Riot, to present her new book Read & Riot. Tolokonnikova draws upon her own hard-won wisdom to share her core principles for opposing authoritarian leaders and governments that threaten to suppress individual rights and freedoms, cutting through the pessimism, fear, uncertainty, and hopelessness. The book is an empowering tool for civil disobedience that encourages us to question the status quo, reject the litany of injustices and not let apathy take hold, and above all, to make political action exciting, and an integral part of our daily lives. Fusing punk and positivity to create a culture of protest that inspires and connects us, Read & Riot includes actions, suggestions, and resources for creating an empowered movement of resistance.  Tolokonnikova will discuss her book with Mona Eltahawy, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

Mona Eltahawy is a feminist author and activist. Her book Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution was published in 2015. Her next book, The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls, will be published by Beacon Press in the Fall 2019.
