Naomi Klein: The Battle for Paradise

In the rubble of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Ricans and ultrarich “Puertopians” are locked in a pitched struggle over how to remake the island. Join us for an urgent conversation about how the forces of shock politics and disaster capitalism are seeking to undermine the nation’s radical, resilient vision for a just recovery. Participants will include Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of Brooklyn-based Latinx community organization UPROSE, Juan González, radio co-host for Democracy Now! and author and social activist Naomi Klein. The night will include a video from JunteGente, art build, community tables, and a book signing by Naomi Klein after the discussion.

All royalties from the sale of Naomi Klein’s book in English and Spanish go directly to JunteGente, a gathering of Puerto Rican organizations resisting disaster capitalism and advancing a fair and healthy recovery for their island. (For more information, visit here.)

This event will take place at Cooper Union’s The Great Hall, at 7 E. 7th St., New York, NY 10003.
