Nature—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial: Nature Salons

Celebrate the opening of Nature—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial co-organized with Cube design museum with intimate conversations led by Cooper Hewitt curators and international designers. All programs are free, pre-registration required.

MATERIALS OF THE ANTHROPOCENE

Designers Shahar Livne and Charlotte McCurdy in conversation with Caitlin Condell, Associate Curator and Head of Drawings, Prints & Graphic Design.

Join us for a discussion exploring the ways in which designers consider the abundance of materials available to them in the 21st century. As the boundary between ‘synthetic’ and ‘natural’ materials becomes increasingly blurry, Livne and McCurdy use design as a means to reflect on the earth’s resilience. They offer new perspectives on design in the context of long ecological timescales, challenging us to contemplate the role of synthetic materials in the changing landscape of the earth in the age of humankind.

ENCOURAGING GROWTH

Designers Amy CongdonRichard Beckett, and Marcos Cruz in conversation with Andrea Lipps, Associate Curator of Contemporary Design.

Join us for a discussion about the role that biological growth plays in 21st-century design. By guiding, manipulating, and engineering growth in living systems like microorganisms, designers are exploring the possibilities and aesthetics of working with biology. Their efforts point to a more harmonious future in which nature’s rhythms and processes are embraced.
