Noguchi Talks | Masatoshi Izumi

Join us for a lecture by Japanese stonecutter—and Isamu Noguchi collaborator—Masatoshi Izumi, highlighting sculptural projects and his personal relationship with Noguchi. The two men began working together in 1968 on Noguchi’s monumental sculpture Black Sun (1969). Noguchi later established a studio and residence on Izumi’s family property in the village of Mure, on the island of Shikoku in Japan (now the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum Japan). Izumi was an instrumental collaborator for Noguchi—accompanying him to quarries, supervising his studio in Japan, and helping with the installation of works at The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City. Now a prominent artist, Izumi is president of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation of Japan. This will be his first public presentation at The Noguchi Museum.

This special evening is free to the public. Space is very limited; Museum members will be given priority in the event of a waitlist.
