An evening with novelist David Rocklin and his new novel The Night Language, in conversation with Garrard Conley, author of the celebrated memoir Boy Erased.
Set in 19th century Ethiopia and the English royal court, the novel is a tale of kidnapping and forbidden love between two men. It tells the story of a young man, Prince Alamayou who is taken from his home in Abyssinia (present-day Ethiopia) to the court of Queen Victoria — a world he knows nothing about. A young Englishman Philip Layard, becomes Alamayou’s guardian, only friend, and eventually, the love of his life.
David Rocklin is the author of The Luminist and is at work on a new novel, The Electric Love Song of Fleischl Berger. He is also the founder and host of Roar Shack, a reading series held monthly in Echo Park, CA.
Garrard Conley‘s Boy Erased: A Memoir is “…a sharp and shocking debut memoir, Conley digs deep into the ex-gay therapy system…” — Kirkus Reviews
